Comparative evaluation of the cytotoxic effect of different intracanal medicaments

ABSTRACTIntroduction: intracanal medicaments have an important role in disinfecting ofthe pulp space and endodontic regenerative procedures. These medications comein close contact with the periradicular tissue, thus their degradation products must bebiocompatible periapical tissue. Otherwise, these will resultin intense inflammatory reaction. Aim of study: The purpose this vitrostudy was to evaluate compare cytotoxicity three medications;Neem oil, double antibiotic paste (DAP) calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2).Materials Methods: Immortalized human gingival fibroblast cells were retrievedfrom cell bank then cultured. Three different (Neemoil, DAP, Ca(OH)2) added cultured cells. Cell viability evaluatedusing 3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide (MTT) andApoptosis/necrosis assays. Statistical analysis performed using One-way ANOVAand post-hoc Tukey test. Results: Ca(OH)2 recorded highest significant cytotoxicityfollowed by Neem DAP which lowest cytotoxicity.Cytotoxicity used directly proportional totheir concentrations Conclusion: could be better recommended as intracanalmedicament procedures because its biocompatibilitycompared other tested medications.
